Some elements about Toastmasters meetings – part 1

Did you know that you can join Toastmasters as long as you are 18 years old?

Did you know that there are over 16,600 clubs with a total of 357,000 members worldwide?

Did you know that only men were involved in the beginning but now the ratio of male versus female is 48% to 52%?

Check out some interesting facts for first-timers.

Here is the basic structure: the chairperson is in charge of the first and last part while the Toastmaster is taking care of the education session. The chairperson calls on a few short roles before the business session. Here I am giving you a mini example for each short 1-minute role.

  • Public Speaking Tip: when speaking, use the 3 seconds “sticky eye” technique to build more connection with the audience.
  • Moment of Reflection: “Speak in such a way that others love to listen to you; listen in such a way that others love to speak to you.”
  • Moment of Humor: I used to be indecisive but now I am not quite sure.
  • Toast: Tonight I would like to pay tribute to our wonderful club. This Club has contributed to the personal growth of so many members.  Everyone has dedicated their time and energy towards mentoring, educating, and ensuring that all our meetings run smoothly. Would you please raise your glasses and let us drink to the health of McGill Toastmasters Club! To McGill Club!
